If Rise of the Machines (2013) and Salvation (2009) have taught us anything, it’s that it is hard to live up to Terminator (1984) and Judgement Day (1991). The story was nice, it wasn’t as incoherent as you’d expected it to be. I mean, the idea of an aging terminator worked and the idea that the war was brought to the present also worked (kind of). Sure enough the story did fall apart towards the end, the helicopter chase scene marked the movies spiral into Science Fiction Fantasy, but the fact that the movie held it together till then was commendable.

Well, I like the theme of the movie. Growing up is a hard thing to do and it was nicely shown. There are a lot of problems as well. The whole idea of trying to explain why you feel certain things takes you out of that experience. Like the Truman Show ending when Truman (Jim Carrey) says “you never had a camera in my head”, you want to feel certain thing you don’t want them explained. Oh the fun personality island is destroyed Riley (Kaitlyn Dias) doesn’t want to have fun anymore, you might as well have Bugs Bunny pop up with a sign saying “she doesn’t want to have any fun anymore”.

It took Sam Neill five minutes to make the Raptors look like the most dangerous animal that ever existed, took Chris Pratt less than that to make them look like six foot Turkeys (that’s Jurassic Park humor). The idea of “controlling” Raptors was pointless, why would you do that? That’s what makes them scary! Secondly, I’d be scared to be in a zoo with an escaped lion, the idea of a dinosaur running loose in a park is scary enough, they had to make up a new dinosaur to make it scarier? Why? The "Indominus Rex", guess all the stupid names were not taken.

As a prequel it was pretty cool, it answered some questions, gave little hints to the older movies, it was nice. But as a movie it was like any other horror movie, especially towards the end. What I really loved about Insidious 1 and 2 was the directing. James Wan did an amazing job with those two movies even with The Conjuring he did a brilliant job directing it. Here Leigh Whannell takes his first shot at directing and you can tell that he tried to keep it similar to the previous movie but it’s not quite there.

I’ll start off by saying; no, I have not watched the TV show but I did get what was going on and who the characters were. So you don’t have to watch the TV show to get what’s going on, which is a good thing. Now, was this a great movie? No, definitely not. Was it funny? Yes it was. Was it entertaining? Well, maybe. It’s just one of those movies where there’s nothing wrong with it but at the same time there’s nothing great about it. Maybe if you’re a fan of the TV show this might be interesting but if you’re not, then this might be a gamble.

The movie started out kind of predictable and a little cheesy but somewhere along the way it got really funny and entertaining. The best part about the movie are the characters, some really authentic and funny characters like; Rick Ford (Jason Statham) the clumsy spy, Raina (Rose Byme) the spoiled brat, Nancy (Miranda Hart) the best friend, Elaine Crocker (Allison Janney) the mean boss and Aldo (Peter Serafinowicz) Pepé Le Pew personified make this movie irresistibly funny. As for Melissa McCarthy, she was ok, I mean I liked mean McCarthy but it was just so much of a character switch that it was weird, it was like she had multiple personality (like Jim Carrey in Me, Myself and Irene).

When The Avengers came out in 2012 it was something new, it was something no one had ever seen before, and it was awesome. But marvel has been turning out a lot of similar movies Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, it’s slowly coming to a point where the wow factor is going down. Give us something more, give us actual cinema, let’s not turn this into a bunch of good looking people running around in skintight costumes. If you take away all the glitz and glamor it’s just The Expendables with a bigger budget.
Another movie that I have mixed emotions for; on one hand its shot in beautiful San Francisco and is a sweet story on the other hand it gets weird with dating father and son. Cinematography was amazing, captured San Francisco in all its beauty, just brilliant stuff. Loved the casting, great choice, pretty much everything was nice expect for the story. Apart from the weird father and son incident, they try to explain why Adaline (Blake Lively) doesn’t age, they try their best to be smart/funny, why? The fuck are you trying to do? Say that she doesn’t age and shut the fuck up, we don’t care! What would someone do if they didn’t age a single day was the interesting part about the story, especially Adaline, someone as sweet and kind as her stuck in time, punished to see everything she loves wither away with time except for her
Personally, I liked this movie but honestly the movie was a little shaky. The plot of the movie changed from a boy wanting his dad to return safely from war to this weird movie about war and its effect on people. Not that I have anything against those type of movies but then you have to make it that kind of a movie, not a movie about a boy missing his dad and then mix in the effect of war on a small community. Especially with Mr. Hashimoto (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa), a Japanese immigrant in the USA during the attack on Pearl Harbor, it creates a great setting but it doesn’t fit into a plot about a boy wanting his father back. It’s like they took this two different ideas and just forced it together.

I will say that it’s a creative new way of telling a story but come the fuck on! Half the movie was staring at a computer screen and reading! If I wanted to read, I’d pick up a damn book! If this shit becomes like Paranormal Activity and four more sequels come out, that will be a sad day for cinema. I mean really?? I hate it when characters in movies text and the content of their text pops up on screen for us to read, this movie just went too far, with nothing but a computer screen for the whole movie.
Who said; remember that movie that was barely watchable? Let’s make a sequel. I’m sorry but Kevin James is not funny in this movie, not even accidentally funny. I can’t believe I paid to watch a fat guy not be funny. And talk about the weirdest looking group of people, I mean come on! This is one of those cases where hot women with cleavage would help considerably. This movie has nothing, no plot, no comedy, no acting, nothing! It has Kevin James, unless you have a weird Kevin James fetish, it’s a good idea to avoid this movie.

I’m a sucker for romantic movies, so I liked it but the movie did have its flaws; my biggest complaint is that everything works out at the end and then some more good luck strikes, which was kind of annoying. I’m all up for the happy ending but let’s not overdo it.
The only thing that makes this movie watchable is the tribute to Paul Walker at the end, with that said this movie is one of the worst. Before I start, I have to say that I understand what the film crew had to go through after Paul Walker’s unforeseen death, and that they had to rewrite and rethink the whole movie but I’m not going to consider that, this is another movie and I’m going to review it like any other. This movie is bad in so many ways; the story is this random treasure hunt, the action scenes go from crazy to random dumb shit, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson keeps popping up in unexpected places, and having Jason Statham in this movie makes little to no sense.
A little rough around the edges, the story is pretty good but it could have been told better. Hellen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds make a great team. Things that aren’t so good; showing the toll this case took on Maria and Randol could have been done better, the movie itself seemed disconnected every time they show “nine months later” or “six months later” it feels like you are watching another story unwind rather than the same story, and the last key speech Randol gives is not that great.
This movie starts off great, with some good camera work, gripping story and some awesome music. But as the movie progresses the story stagnates and becomes vague. The first half of the movie is brilliant but combined with the second half it makes for an average movie, still better than most movies out there but it could have been way better. The director should have kept the story going as an unstoppable urban legend instead of making it like the traditional horror movie with the classis “Exorcism scene” where everyone gathers and tries to get rid of the ghost or demon or whatever. That probably killed the momentum of the movie, it was heading in a great direction but it took too many turns and got messy.
You would think that a movie with Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart would be funny but you’d be wrong. I guess they thought a white guys asking a black guy advice on how to survive in prison would be funny, honestly it wasn’t, sure there were some funny scenes, like one out of twenty were funny other than that it was plain awkward. At one point they convert the whole house into a prison, most of the shots inside the house are boring as fuck, the house seemed to be there just to prolong the movie.

As a movie it pretty much follows the traditional animated movie storyline; you have your misfits that don’t fit in, trying to find where they belong, you have the fake loss for the emotional junky watching, and the grand finale where everybody wins (surprise). For those who are 3D artists, this movie will be a little more interesting; the Boov characters are kind of cool, with a lot of squash and stretch, sometimes even blowing up like a balloon, some crazy simulations going on, loved how they also change colors which was kind of cool. The girl, Gratuity ‘Tip’ Tucci (Rihanna) has some interesting design, more towards the realistic side, with some very beautiful eyes more wider pupils but looks really good, and her hair is especially good some great hair simulation. I like how they contrasted characters with a semi realistic girl, a very cartoony looking cat and a cartoony Boov. Some great visuals, the cat cam was nice, and the scene in Paris, that’s probably the cherry on the top for this movie.
It’s your typical action movie, nothing special about it (that’s code for watchable). It does have that classic action movie feel to it, one man against a mob, ex hitman turns against his organization, basically it’s an idea that has been used too many times. What’s good about this movie is that it sticks to the basics; simple story, simple action scenes and a nice ending. This movie proves that all you need to do is play the lead in a movie like Schindler's List and Hollywood will do the rest. It also proves that summer is coming and along with it a line of mediocre action movies.
A convoluted story with some bad action scenes and a protagonist who is just too beaten down, I mean Martin Terrier (Sean Penn) is just too much of the stereotypical underdog, so much so that it’s pathetic. Actions scenes are bad, there is one scene with the explosives in the house, that scene is awesome. I really feel bad for Felix (Javier Bardem), poor guy (and poor Javier Bardem, you play one negative roll in a Hollywood movie and you’re typecast as the negative guy in every other movie).
