Tells the story of Atticus Finch (Gregory Peck) through the eyes of his youngest daughter Scout Finch (Mary Badham), Atticus is a man with high morals and the movie provides situations where his morals are being tested and how beautifully he deals with each and every situation. The movie is an adaptation of a novel of the same name, so if you’re a book enthusiast then this book would be a good read.
The movie revolves around Atticus, a layer in a small town in the south in the 60’s. And how he teaches his two children Scout and Jem Finch (Philip Alford) not to be influenced by their surrounds and live without prejudice, that sometimes you shouldn’t just give into an ideal just because it’s widely accepted and to look at each and every person as a reflection of oneself. The movie teaches a lot of good moral values and should be watched and analyzed by every individual. We all give into conformity sometimes, keeping our eyes open and yet losing our ability to see. This is a movie that tells you, to be an honest man you have to go through great trouble and disrespect. The important thing is to realize that you have to be a good honest man for yourself and not for others. That’s the good I took from the movie, what you take from the movie depends on you, which is why everyone should watch this movie! The story is pretty simple, Atticus defends a black man Tom Robinson (Brock Peters) for being wrongly accused. But the brilliance of the movie is in every decision Atticus takes leading up to the trial of Tom Robinson. The movie puts Atticus in a moral dilemma at every turn, most of which we have face in our lives, and how Atticus tries to be a better person and handles the situation. “I said, 'Hey,' Mr. Cunningham. How's your entailment getting along?” probably the most beautiful scene in the movie that strips down a human being to his very soul. This is a movie that should be on everyone’s bucket list :)
