Probably one of the best Zombie movies there is. Despite being in black and white, and despite having a lot of low lit scenes, this is a timeless classic. George A. Romero is the go-to guy for Zombie movies, he has dedicated his career making them, and seeing that this is his first movie, it’s not surprising.
The story is pretty simple, Barbra (Judith O'Dea) and Johnny (Russell Streiner) drive to rural Pennsylvania to visit their father's grave. What started as a routine trip turned sour when a strange man starts walking in the graveyard towards Barbra and starts attacking her. Johnny tries to save her but badly injures himself. Barbara manages to escape to this farmhouse where she seeks shelter. After a while Ben (Duane Jones) arrives to the scene in his truck, he is out of gas and stops at the house for shelter. As Ben and Barbara exchange stories they realise that something horrible is going on. Ben starts sealing up the house, and during the course of the movie they find out that there are people in the basement of the house as well. As they listen to the radio they realise that the dead have been coming to life and they’re seeking flesh. Now the question is, will they survive long enough for the rescue team to show up and save them. The movie is terrific, no complaints, even the ending leaves a eerie question, which is king of great.
